Currently, only the Southern Section is under construction. The 57 km job site goes from Régis Bittencourt Highway, in Embu, to the extension of Avenida Papa Joăo XXIII, in Mauá. The five lots that comprise this section are being developed by consortia ndrade Gutierrez/Galvăo Engenharia, Queiroz Galvăo/CR Almeida, Arco Sul (Odebrecht/Constran), Camargo Corręa/Serveng and OAS/Mendes Jr., and the last three companies are using Terex equipment.
Just in Lot 2, directed by Arco Sul, four Terex VDA 700 and one CR 462 asphalt pavers are being used. "These machines bring great advantages, especially in the case of the VDA
700SM, with easy maintenance and operation, availability of parts,
robustness and great drive," said Mr. Paulo Miguel Barbosa, Operations Manager for the Consortium. According to Mr. Barbosa, this particular machine has enabled a significant productivity gain in this project, especially in the base and sub-base layers (BGS and BGTC). "It is resistant to the use of
highly abrasive materials that cause a lot of mechanical wear. Moreover, the screed provides a good finish with a safe and interactive system.
For Arco Sul consortium's Operations Manager,
the CR 462, despite the fact that it is not used so
often in this lot, has already demonstrated that its
performance is remarkable. "This machine has userfriendly
sonic electronics, an integrated screed heating
system and excellent finish. That is why we are
prioritizing its use for the final layers of bitumen
material," he said, thus confirming why most pavers
used in the Rodoanel project are branded Terex RB LA.
Another Terex machine that is performing very
well in the Rodoanel project is Cedarapids CR 562
paver that serves the OAS/Mendes Júnior consortium.
"Its performance is great! There is just one problem:
it needs a lot of asphalt plant to keep it running. When
it starts working at 7 or 8 meters (it can reach 8.8 m)
it goes a long way, as long as it is required, said
Olímpio Fernandes.
To keep the CR 562 running, the OAS/Mendes Júnior consortium counts on a Magnum 140 asphalt plant capable of producing up to 140 tons of mixture per hour. Entirely mobile, this plant saves on setup time and is very quick in the field, and achieves the type of quality desired in a project as big as the Rodoanel. Besides the CR 562 and the Magnum 140, the consortium has four VDA 700 and an SF 004 slipform paver at the job site. Camargo Correa/Serveng is using a CR 462.
"It is extremely gratifying to know that our machines
are being used and appreciated in a project like the
Rodoanel Mário Covas," said Terex RB LA General
Manager, Reus Rosa. "It proves that our investments
in technology, robustness and quickness are meeting
the needs of the largest corporations in Brazil and
around the globe," he exulted.
